NEREUS(underwater vehicke)

-It is an automonus underwater vehicle created by Woods Hoods Oceanographic institute(WHOI)

-Constructed as a research vehicle to operate st the depth of 36,000feet(11,000m), it was designed to explore the challenger deep which is the deepest portion of global ocean

-On this dive nereus reached a depth of 35,768feet(10,902m) making it the second vehicle to reach the deepest point currently in operation, and since the first time in 1998 the mariana ocean which is known to be the deepest part till now

-Nereus weighs about 3.0tons in air,4.25m long and 2.3m wide

-Approximately 2,000lithium ion batteries power it

-An alternative to a tether, it can be switched to a free swimming mode and operated as an automonus vehicle and hover, similar to a helicopter over the ocean surface

-It hovered for about 10 hours over the trench and sent back live videos to the mother ship
